Coping With Stress - How Thinking Positive Can Turn Around Your Life

As stress continues to dominate the world around us there are many stress management techniques being suggested by experts. As we find ways to manage and minimize stress in our life, we encounter and develop self-made management and coping mechanisms that are unique to each individual. However unique it may be, it is still guided by basic principles in managing stress. One of those principles is thinking positive. Here we will discuss how thinking positive can minimize, manage and avoid stresses in life.

Situations in life do not necessarily cause stress. Sometimes it is because of how we react to certain situations that we cause the stress ourselves. The way we view situations as being stressful is solely up to ourselves and how we think of the situations affecting us. Often when we face new situations that we are not accustomed to, such as a job interview, we usually automatically think of it as stressful, and some of us often have second thoughts about facing the interview, and may choose to run away from it.

This is a typical reaction of many people however some of us are already accustomed to facing new situations without a second thought. These people usually have good stress management techniques and ways to cope. In facing stressful situations such as a job interview, they know how to handle both themselves and the situation. One of their weapons in fighting stress is to think positive and look at the situation’s positives – great I will have a new and better paying job after this interview!

Thinking negative thoughts adversely effects stress management. It is like downgrading yourself before trying to face a new situation simply because you have never tried it before. This way of thinking will only cause negative self image and failure.

On the other hand positive thinking helps immensely in most situations. When positive about a situation, one looks more at the benefits rather than the possible negative consequences. Even if previously failing to succeed in a new situation, positive thinkers would say “chalk it up to experience” and get on with it. They may make a joke out of it and laugh at themselves about what happened.

Taking risks is an essential part of life and without it life would be boring and unsuccessful and you might as well live on a deserted island. You will never lose anything by being positive.

To summarize, positive thinking is a way to counter negative thoughts and in that context, thinking positively about a situation will minimize the stress it brings. Good, calm and positive thoughts help you grasp and see a stressful situation in another perspective. Think positive in every little experience that comes in life and you will probably lead a satisfying life.
