How To Successfully Manage Your Own Stress Levels Before You Blow A Gasket!

Number one, stress is not good. No matter what, it is not good for any part of your body, mind, or soul. It is a toxin that can lead to a variety of different diseases, mental and physical disorders and we could go on. However, stress is part of daily life so there has to be some way that we can get through life without it completely consuming us. There is, and that is through managing it properly.

The first thing you should do in managing your stress is to assess what it is that is causing the stress in your life. What is it that is making you feel stressed out all of the time. Then take a look at how it is affecting your world around you and your overall health. Here are some tips on how to cope with the stresses of every day living.

As stated above, figure out what is causing the stress. One way to do this is to actually keep what is called a stress diary. What you do here is to take note of what is bothering you on a daily basis. You should keep track of the different things in your life that are causing stress and make note of them. You should do this for about 2 weeks. Make sure to notate what triggers the different feelings that lead to stress and how it affects you, like behavior change or your reactions to it. Once you see what is causing you to be stressed out and how you cope or don't cope, you will be able to look at your lifestyle, where you work and what mechanisms for coping that you need to try and change.

Once you have figured out what is causing the stress in your life, the next step is going to be how you need to get rid of the unhealthy way that you are trying to cope with this particular thing or things that are stressing you out. This means if you drink to much, over eat, keep your feeling inside, isolating yourself or putting things off. These bad habits could all be unhealthy ways in which you try to combat the stress in your life.

After you recognize the unhealthy ways you are trying to cope with the different situations you need to cope with you need to learn how to deal with the stress differently than you have been. Below are four different ways you can cope with the stress other than the ways you have been trying:

1. Avoidance – Try to avoid what is stressing you out. For an example if you feel you are already over worked at work then learn to say no to any extra jobs or responsibilities that someone might ask you to do. Simply avoid taking on more than you know you can handle at any one time.

2. Alter Things – If you can alter the thing that stresses you out then do it. This means you need to be willing to speak up during a difficult situation. You need to also be willing to compromise on certain issue or simply learn how to manage your time better in situations where things don't seem to be flowing properly.

3. Adapt – Teach yourself to try and adapt to the things that are stressing you out. For instance, if it's being stuck in morning traffic, instead of letting yourself get angry over it, think about what the traffic will be like say in five or ten years and then ask yourself if that even matters. If it doesn't, then ask yourself why it even matters right now. Take the extra time to listen to your favorite music instead and just chill.

4. Acceptance – Learn to accept the thing that is causing you stress. Come to the realization that whatever it might be is simply out of your control. Try to look at each thing as having a good side to it, find that good side. For instance if you are in a doctor's office and you find yourself waiting a long time and it's like this all the time, then prepare for it and bring something good to read, this way you are creating something good out of the time you are being forced to wait. If it's something more serious like an illness or even death, let yourself off the hook and realize that these are things that you simply cannot do anything about.

It's time to learn to relax. There are many ways in which your body can relax and fight stress. This can be anything from good posture to breathing techniques you can use while meditating. You would be amazed at what a little bit of controlled breathing can do.

Note: Don't forget to exercise, even if it's just a quick walk around the block, by pumping positive adrenaline through your body, you will be surprised at how quickly it will help your body get rid of the feelings you get when you are stressed out.
