Stress & Anxiety Advice - Essential Vitamins for Managing Stress

Stress has become a normal part of our modern lifestyle. It seems everyone is stressed out by their problems or way of life. But, have you ever noticed that different people react to the same situation differently. Some of us get stressed out easily, whereas other seems to handle situation quite effectively. Why the difference?

One of the major reasons for this is our diet. It has been observed that healthy people can handle stress more effectively. What we eat everyday effects the brain and body chemistry and so the capability to handle stress .

Vitamins and mineral supplements play an important role in the way we handle stress and anxiety. It has been found that one third of anxiety, depression and stress related disorders are caused by deficiency of one or the other major vitamins or minerals in the body.

Vitamin A – This vitamin plays an important role in maintaining healthy skin, building immunity and controlling growth hormones. Vitamin A is also a powerful anti- oxidant and is a great stress-reliever.

Vitamin D – This plays an important role in the synthesis, production and release of Serotonin (a feel-good hormone) .The major source of Vitamin D is sunlight. Lack of this vitamin may lead to irritability, fatigue and depression. So it is advisable to take sunlight for at least 30 minutes a day.

Vitamin B Complex – Vitamin B complex plays a key factor in fighting stress in the body and utilisation of minerals, proteins and carbohydrates. These vitamins works best when all of them are taken together with food. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) helps in the metabolism of Tryptophan, an amino acid which helps in the formation of Serotonin.

Vitamin B12 also helps in calming the nerves. Pyridoxine also plays a major role in maintaining nerve integrity. Biotin and Folic acid help in utilisation of food and the release of energy, boosting our stamina.

Vitamin E – It is a very powerful anti-oxidant which helps in removing free radicals from our body and provides body strength and helps in forming a strong immunity.

Vitamin C – Vitamin C is a very strong anti-oxidant and helps in maintaining the adrenal glands in a healthy state and regulates the synthesis and release of Cortisol Hormone (a stress hormone)

Apart from these vitamins, minerals especially Magnesium and Zinc play an important role in relieving and fighting stress and keeping the heart healthy. Regular intake of vitamins and mineral supplements under medical supervision will help build up your stamina and hence help in fighting stress day after day - everyday.
