Top Tips for Dealing with Panic Attacks, Over-Stress & Acute Anxiety


If you have ever had a panic attack you know just how scary they are, especially the very first time that you may have had one. You probably even thought you were about to die, but history has shown that no one has ever died from one. However, that still does not take away the fear when one does occur. Here are some suggestions that might help you combat these attacks.

One thing you can do is turn on the TV and try finding something to watch that is funny like an old sit com or even a kids show. Kids shows have a way of taking you away from the reality of everything and putting you in a different state of mind. As silly as that might seem, it can help you forget about what is stressing you out and go back to a simpler time.

Sometimes a panic attack will arise because the stress or anxiety makes you feel like you are losing control and if you do some ordinary things like some simple chores around the house can do wonders for you. You can do things like gardening, the dishes or even go out and wash the car. All of these things might be enough to help you calm down.

Eat some comfort food. Some of those foods might be oatmeal, milk, chocolate, ice cream, soup or even some chamomile tea. These things are called comfort foods because they seem to have a way of calming down your body when it's under stress. It's also a good idea to eat or drink these things slowly, doing this will help to make the feeling of doom pass away.

A nice hot and soothing bath with our without bubbles is also another avenue that you might want to take. Take a washcloth and let the warm water drip over your head and face while you soak in the tub. Make sure that you clothes your eyes and even have some scented candles burning. Adding some nice soothing music will also add more calmness to the atmosphere.

Meditation and deep breathing is yet another way in which you can help the body to focus and calm down. Listen to your own breathing as you slowing take in the air and then slowly release the air. If you can imagine that you are sitting on a beach alone watching and listening to the waves slowing moving onto the shore. Imagine the sounds around you, the gulls, the smell of the ocean air and the sea breeze rustling through your hair. If you can't do that on your own then consider having one of those nature sound CDs on hand for moments like this.

If you can't seem to find any peace where you might be then if you live near a park take a walk to that park and just sit and watch children at play, look at the birds cleaning themselves in a pool of water or watch them fly. Take in all of the sounds and sights of the nature around you. Nature can have a very calming affect on a person.

If nothing seems to work then simply consider going to bed and pull the covers up over your head and just let yourself nod off to sleep. Rest is an incredible way for your body to calm down and let go of things that have been bothering you.
